Iraq’s Top Leaders Reaffirm State Control Over All Weapons

(MENAFN) Iraq’s senior political and judicial officials have reiterated that all weapons must remain under the authority of the state, stressing that security and military decision-making should be exclusively managed by official institutions.

According to reports, the statement came after a meeting at the Baghdad Palace hosted by President Nizar Amidi, and attended by Prime Minister Ali Alzaidy, Parliament Speaker Haibat al-Halbousi, and Supreme Judicial Council President Faiq Zaidan.

The discussions covered political, security, and economic developments, along with broader regional issues, the presidency said.

The leaders emphasized that restricting arms to state control is “a fundamental pillar of the rule of law and state authority.”

They also praised what they described as “national positions” by political groups that announced cutting ties with the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), in line with constitutional requirements and state-building principles.
